1. Overview

DependGuard AI is a Chrome Extension that analyzes JavaScript dependencies to identify security, performance, and maintenance risks.

This Privacy Policy explains what data is processed, why it is processed, and your controls.

A) Project and dependency data (user-provided or user-triggered)

  • package.json content pasted by the user
  • Dependency metadata extracted from supported pages (for example, GitHub pages) when scan is triggered
  • Optional active-tab scan metadata if that feature is used

Purpose: Generate dependency risk analysis, scorecards, recommendations, and reports.

B) Extension settings and configuration

  • AI provider selection (OpenAI, Gemini, Custom endpoint)
  • AI model name and endpoint configuration
  • API key provided by the user for AI features

Purpose: Enable optional AI analysis.

Storage: chrome.storage.sync and/or chrome.storage.local in the user's browser profile.

C) Analysis results and report data

  • Health score, findings, recommendations, expanded diagnostics
  • Exportable CSV report content
  • Recent scan cache for popup restore/usability

Purpose: Improve usability and allow reporting/export.

D) Network request data

When analysis runs, the extension may call:

  • https://registry.npmjs.org/*
  • https://bundlephobia.com/*
  • https://api.npms.io/*

If AI is enabled by the user, it may also call:

  • https://api.openai.com/*
  • https://generativelanguage.googleapis.com/*
  • User-configured custom AI endpoint

These third-party services may process request metadata (for example IP address, timestamp, user agent) under their own policies.

4. Data We Do Not Intentionally Collect

ClickMaker IT Solutions does not intentionally collect:

  • Passwords
  • Payment card data
  • Private messages
  • Unrelated browsing history

DependGuard AI does not sell personal data.

5. AI Features and API Keys

AI features are optional.

  • Users must add their own API key.
  • ClickMaker IT Solutions does not provide shared API keys.
  • API keys are stored in extension storage and used for user-initiated requests.
  • If AI is enabled, selected analysis context is sent to the chosen AI provider to generate enhanced recommendations.

Users are responsible for ensuring they do not submit confidential data to third-party AI services without proper authorization.

6. Chrome Permissions (Why They Are Needed)

  • storage – save settings and analysis state
  • host_permissions – call dependency intelligence and optional AI endpoints

7. Data Sharing

Data is shared only as needed to deliver requested features:

  1. Dependency intelligence providers (npm registry, bundle size/popularity services)
  2. AI provider selected by the user (if enabled)
  3. User-configured custom AI endpoint (if enabled)

No sale or rental of user data.

8. Retention

  • Recent scan data may be cached locally for session continuity and quick reopen.
  • Settings remain until changed by the user or extension removal.
  • Users can clear extension data from Chrome settings at any time.

9. Security

Reasonable controls are used, including:

  • Local browser storage for settings/cache
  • Permission-scoped extension design
  • No hardcoded shared vendor API keys in production

No method of storage or transmission is fully risk-free.

10. International Data Processing

Third-party services used by the extension may process data outside your country.

By enabling such services, users acknowledge potential cross-border processing per those providers' terms.

11. User Controls and Choices

Users can:

  • Use core analysis without AI
  • Add/remove API keys in settings
  • Disable AI providers anytime
  • Clear local extension data
  • Uninstall the extension

12. Children's Privacy

DependGuard AI is not directed to children under 13 (or equivalent minimum age required by local law).

13. Policy Updates

This policy may be updated periodically. Changes will be reflected by updating the “Last Updated” date.
